Thanks to Pinterest, my Diamond Lace baby afghan is the most viewed post on my blog. I've had requests for the stitch pattern, and have been meaning to post it, I'm just slow. So finally, here it is for anyone who wants to give it a shot! It is really easy, but the end result looks quite impressive. If you aren't familiar with patterns or the abbreviations,
here is a website that can help you. So on to the instructions.
First, you'll want your beginning chain to be a multiple of 6, plus 3 for turning. I used worsted weight yarn for these pictures and for my afghan, but you could use any yarn and hook you wanted and just chain an amount according to how big you want your finished item.
Row 1: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in 6th ch from hook, *skip next 5 ch, (2dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch; repeat from * across to within last 3 ch, skip next 2 ch, dc in last ch, turn.
This is what it should look like after the first row.
Row 2: ch1, sc in first dc, *ch 3, dc in next ch-1 space, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, sc between last skipped and next dc; repeat from * across, ending with last sc in top of turning ch, turn.
And this is what it looks like after the second row.
Row 3: ch 4 (counts as tr), skip next ch-3 loop, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc, *skip next 2 ch-3 loops, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in next dc; repeat from * across to within last ch-3 loop, skip next ch-3 loop, tr in last sc, turn.
And this is after row 3.
That's it! Just keep repeating rows 2 and 3 for the pattern. Once you
get in a rhythm with it, it goes really quickly. I've made scarves with
this pattern, found
here, and the baby blanket found
here.

I have that same book and this pattern is on my "gotta try" list! Thanks for sharing - it's definitely a keeper!
How did you do the border around your afgan?
Can you tell me how you did the border?
You are amazing. I love the little BYU hat. So cute! I hope that things are going well for you. We'll have to get together again next time I am down that direction.
Thank you so much for the pattern it,s fan :-)
Woo hoo :) Very nice stitch! Thank you for posting up information on how to make it! Love the design and gave it some pin love ;) Best, Dawn
I need help! I don't know what chain 1 space you're talking about.
The border is just a couple rows of single crochet, with three sc to turn each corner. And the chain 1 space is a typo, I'm sorry, it's the chain two space. You crochet around the chain two, rather than into the stitch.
Thanks SuziQ, this explanaion helps.
Easy and nice :) I will use for a top.
Easy and nice :) I will use for a top.
Beautiful, tks for sharing
Looks wonderful. thank you. I am going to make a baby blanket and incorporate your stitch with a solid double crochet of 10/15 stitches in columns between your stitch. I think it will come out beautiful. Thanks again for all your hard work.
Hi it would help for beginners if you could do a picture tutorial as i would like to crochet this stitch thank you .
I've been looking for a long time for just the right stitch to make an eternity scarf. I wanted it to be light, airy and delicate. I've finally found it!! Thank you so much for posting this pattern. Now I can stop looking and get busy crocheting. The yarn I picked out for this project has been calling out to me for months and I can't wait to get started.
Thanks for sharing this stitch. It is easy and quick to work. And the finish is beautiful.
I decided to make a scarf out of baby yarn in a really nice green (& not a pale baby shade). I thought at first it would be difficult..l, but....Wow! It's not! And, it's looking Terrific, if I don't say so myself! 😉
I really like this stitch ...or ...pattern ....it's not that hard. I know I'll make this again!
Thank You! I really appreciate your freebie! You made my day! 😊

I sat down to start a scarf with this pattern, an, maybe it was just too late at night, but row 2 has me a bit confused...can you clarify it for me? The "from last skipped" portion...just doesn't click for me!! Thanks!
Pam
I absolutely love this stitch!! I used pale yellow and white, alternated every five rows and it looks fabulous! I am going to figure out how to make a hat in this stitch to match!! Thank you so much for this pattern and your instructions were easy to read and follow!! Many thanks again
Lisa
Love this! So easy to follow and the stitch is gorgeous! Thank you!!
Hi I tried this pattern . There is a small error in row 2 , it reads " ch3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3
But the following row did not have a ch 1 sp , I think you meant to say ch 2 sp other then that it seems to all jive
Thanks Beate Gravel
There is a mistake in the pattern description. It's supposed to say "ch1, sc in first dc, *ch 3, dc in next ch-2 space,"...... NOT"ch-1 space"
This pattern was very hard to follow. Are you using UK terms?no ch 1 spaces I gave up.
